Taylor Swift paid more than $160,000 for the permit required to hold her wedding to Travis Kelce at Madison Square Garden, New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani revealed on July 10.

The mayor shared the figure during a consumer protection press conference after being asked whether Swift would reimburse the city for police overtime linked to the couple’s July 3 wedding.

The event prompted temporary street closures around Madison Square Garden during the Fourth of July holiday, leading to criticism from some public officials over the cost of security. Mamdani said the permit fee had already covered the city’s response to the event.

Taylor Swift has paid already the cost of the permit that was lodged, which was over $160,000 for that event and for the response to that event. That was a permit that was finalized, I think, just [in] the days before the event itself.

The mayor’s comments came after Republican Rep. Nicole Malliotakis questioned whether Swift and Kelce would reimburse the New York Police Department for officers assigned to the wedding. In a post on X, Malliotakis argued that taxpayers should not bear the cost of police overtime during the Independence Day holiday.

Mamdani’s remarks clarified that Swift had already paid the permit fee, which included the city’s response costs associated with the wedding.

The permit was only a small portion of the reported cost of the celebrity wedding. While Swift and Kelce have not disclosed how much they spent on the celebration, luxury wedding and event planner Lindsay Landman told Rolling Stone that the event likely cost between $20 million and $25 million.

The publication also reported that the couple donated $26 million to 20 charities across the United States in the days leading up to their wedding.

Swift previously spoke about Kelce’s engagement ring design during an appearance on Heart Breakfast, explaining that he remembered a jewelry designer she had admired long before proposing.

I had shown him a video, I just thought her stuff was so cool, I had shown him a video like a year and a half ago and he was just paying attention to everything it turns out because when I saw the ring I (gasped) … I was like, ‘I know who made this, I know who made this,’ and also, you listen to me! It was like you really know me. I didn’t know what I would want, but he did somehow, and that’s kind of a flex.
