Taylor Swift was ecstatic after Travis Kelce reached a career milestone on Monday night. The Kansas City Chiefs star surpassed Dallas icon Jason Witten for the second-most receiving yards by a TE in NFL history.

On 3rd & 6 in the third quarter, the Chiefs led the Denver Broncos by eleven points in the season’s final opening fixture at Arrowhead Stadium. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes connected with Kelce around the halfway line. The big tight end missed the first defender and carried the ball inside the Denver five-yard line before being tackled to the ground.

The camera turned to the VIP box where an excited Taylor Swift celebrated with her mother Andrea, her mother-in-law Donna Kelce, and brother-in-law Jason Kelce.

Before kickoff, Kelce was third on the all-time receiving yards list for tight ends. With that massive run in the third quarter, he jumped to second, surpassing former Cowboy Jason Witten. Kelce caught 3 passes for 71 yards against Denver, which improved his tally to 13,073 yards in 193 games.

It’s a good feeling to get this win, all the other stuff is hoopla for me right now, I’m just focused on getting wins and tryna get that ball in that end zone.

The only player ahead of Kelce is another former Chief, Tony Gonzalez. Tony G retired with 15,127 yards, but he also made 270 appearances.

In 2024, the Chiefs lost the Super Bowl to the Philadelphia Eagles. Experts advised Kelce to consider retirement and enjoy downtime with his then-girlfriend and now-wife, Taylor Swift. But Kelce opted to return. The situation at KC worsened. The Chiefs struggled to win games. At one point, Mahomes was 6-7 for the first time in his career.

Meanwhile, Kelce sat down with Tony G for an interview where he talked about the reason behind prolonging his tenure. Kelce revealed that it wasn’t the right moment to hang up his cleats.

Just the fact that I know when it’s over, it’s over. And I feel like I don’t know, like I still have a lot of love for this game, man. I feel like, if I came back, it’d be just to answer that flame in my heart that I still love this thing. And, you know, I’ve been very fortunate to handle things on the field and off the field, to be able to set myself up and follow the footsteps of guys like Tony Gonzalez into the booth, if that’s something that I want to do.

Kelce had to contemplate the same decision after KC missed out on the playoffs last year. The 36-year-old ran it back once more by signing a three-year extension.

In July, Kelce tied the knot with Taylor Swift at the historic Madison Square Garden.

With Mahomes returning from ACL surgery, it was unclear what version of the All-Pro signal caller would show up on Monday. A rushing touchdown just six minutes after kickoff put all the doubts to rest.

Kelce chipped in with the biggest play of his night. Debutant Kenneth Walker scored one receiving touchdown and one rushing touchdown while gaining 190+ yards. Rookie Mansoor Delane made his mark on his professional debut by intercepting Broncos QB Bo Nix.

The Chiefs won 31-10. Patrick Mahomes has never lost to the Broncos at Arrowhead. He is 8-0 against the AFC West rivals.

The Chiefs remain at home for their next game. They host the Indianapolis Colts, who lost their first game against the Baltimore Ravens.
