Alexander Zverev advances into the 2nd round of the Wimbledon 2021 as he continues chasing his maiden Grand Slam title. Zverev was up against Tallon Griekspoor in the first round and won the match 6-3, 6-4, 6-1.
Zverev needed just 1.5 hours to wrap up the match as he hit 20 aces and dominated on the service to wrap up a rather easy victory to move ahead into the tournament.
Zverev reflects on his improved performances at the Slams

The Wimbledon remains the only Grand Slam where the German has not made it till the semi-finals. Zverev’s best result at Wimbledon has been his 4th round run at the 2017 Wimbledon. Other than that, he has made it till the finals of the 2020 US Open, and semi-finals of the 2020 Australian Open and 2021 French Open.
Answering a journalist’s question who predicted that he will meet Novak Djokovic in the finals at the end of Wimbledon 2021, Zverev said, “If you give me a paper I will sign right now. Everybody was saying that I don’t do well in Grand Slams, but I was also 19,20,21 years old, I was young. Playing well at Slams is different than playing well in other tournaments.
“Yes, I was winning the Master series, I was winning the World Tour finals, I was No. 3 in the world. Out of the young guys, I was the first to do ‘things’. Since Australian Open 2020 I have shown great results and now people are asking when will I win a Grand Slam.
“When I will win one, people will ask why don’t u win 10. There’s always gonna be something that will be a question. You were right with my prediction in Madrid so I hope you are right this time as well.” replied Zverev
“Everybody will miss them” Alexander Zverev talks about the trio of Djokovic, Federer and Nadal

When asked about the magnitude of having won 20 Grand Slams by Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal and with Novak Djokovic on 19 Grand Slams, Zverev talked about the greatness of the trio and called them the greatest ever in the sport.
“They three are greatest of all time, its as simple as that. I hope they continue playing for very long time. Even though for us, who are trying to win a Grand Slam, they are in our way.
“But we do understand what they mean to the tennis and how much they mean for the world of sports in general and I think they will be the biggest part of tennis that ever was and everybody will miss them once they are gone.”
Talking about the Round of 16 clash of England vs Germany game at the Euros 2020, Zverev said, “You have 10 more minutes than I will leave. Me and the German boys are gonna watch the match together in my room.”
Alexander Zverev will play the winner of Tennys Sandgren and Norbert Gombos in the 2nd round of the Wimbledon 2021.
