This year’s MWTC will witness Andy Murray’s fourth appearance in the tournament, having won the championship twice. The first win came in the inaugural edition of the tournament in 2009, where Andy defeated Rafael Nadal in a closely contested final. The second win came due to Novak Djokovic’s unfortunate withdrawal from the tournament due to illness.

In his first match, Murray is going to face Dan Evans after Dominic Thiem pulled out of the event. The Austrian has a great record against the former world no. 1, he hasn’t lost a single match against the Scot since 2015. The winner will go ahead to face Rafael Nadal in the Semi-Finals.

Looking for a Comeback: Andy Murray

Murray will be looking to make a comeback into the top world rankings in 2022. The last couple of years have been injuries-ridden for the former World No.1. He dropped to 172nd rank in 2021, however, a few good performances saw him move up to 134th to end the year.

He will be looking to make the most out of the exhibition tournament. Despite being the lowest-ranked player in the tournament, Murray has shown his class against the top-ranked players. A win here will definitely boost his morale for the coming year and his fans will be expecting nothing less than a win from him.
