Former World No. 1 Andy Murray struck form just at the right time. After an early exit from Queen’s 2021, Murray fans were a little concerned about how things will pan out for the champion player on the grass court. However, Murray started his journey in Wimbledon 2021 in an emphatic fashion by going past 24 seeded Nikoloz Basilashvili in four sets.

After the moral boosting win, Murray had a few things to say. He claimed that it was incredible to make a comeback on the center court after such a long time and also talked about the fans who have constantly supported him in his journey. He said, “it’s such a brilliant atmosphere, it’s something I really missed since I made a comeback 8-9 months ago. The reception I got here when I cam out was great, thanks to all of them(crowd).”

Talking about the game, Murray said, “I did well to win the fourth set in the end because that was mentally not easy going back to the locker room after losing the third.” When asked about what he did to keep his focus in the game after the roof was closed when the third set ended, Murray had a cheeky reply in store.

He said, “I took a shower, went to the toilet, just the number one. It was disappointing that I lost the third but then I just remembered what I was doing which got me in the winning position. I cut out some of the drop shots and served a bit better and managed to turn things back around.”

Talking about how challenging the last few months have been for him, Murray said, “it’s been tough. I didn’t have the most serious of injuries but it was frustrating not being able to get on the court and I had such little momentum over the last few years. I just kept trying, kept working hard in the gym to get me back in this position and I feel very lucky that I got to do it again.”

Turing a bit emotional in the end, Murray said, “I keep getting asked like is it going to be your last Wimbledon? I don’t why people keep asking that because I am going to keep playing, I want to play. I am enjoying it and I can still play at the highest level. He(Basilashvili) is ranked 28 in the world and I have hardly played any match and I beat him.”
