Renowned tennis coach Patrick Mouratoglou has expressed his amazement on how the legends of the game are just not allowed to fail in big moments. He further opined that players from both men’s and women’s tour are under enormous pressure to keep winning.

“I have been saying that champions have been taken away their right to fail. They’re always expected to win, and therefore, anything else than winning is disappointing. Can you imagine the amount of pressure that is?” the Frenchman wrote on his Facebook page.

Mouratoglou further pointed out that World No.1 Novak Djokovic was carrying plenty of weight on his shoulders in New York and it was tough for the Serb to live up to all the hype of possibly being the best ever player in history.

“Now imagine you’re not just expected to win a Grand Slam, but you’re one match away from rewriting history in a way that perhaps no other player will have the opportunity to, ever. Novak was one match away from doing a calendar Grand Slam, and he was one match away from officially becoming the “GOAT”, by taking the lead over Rafa and Roger in the number of major titles won.”

Expect Djokovic to win more titles

The 51-year-old who has been coaching Serena Williams, Coco Gauff and Stefanos Tsitsipas on the tour also expressed confidence on the 20-time Grand Slam champion Djokovic. Mouratoglou had little doubts in stating that the top-ranked player will get back to his best tennis and win some more big titles along with way.

“He has such a margin, that he has been able to win a lot this year without playing well quite often. On Sunday, the crowd showed him their admiration and encouragements. But it was too late. Despite that, he came so close, and gave us an incredible show. History wasn’t made this weekend, but I’m sure Novak hasn’t said his last word.”
