Chile vs Spain: Preview
The Spanish team is one of the strongest in the tournament courtesy their in form singles players. They will however be missing the service of their star player- Rafael Nadal. In Rafa’s absence, Roberto Bautista Agut will play the lead singles against Cristian Garin. Bautista Agut is ranked 19th in the world while Garin is the World No.17. Both the players didn’t have a good run towards the later half of the 2021 season and would desperately want to start this season on a good note.
Pablo Carreno Busta, who was for a long time Spain’s No.2 player, has dropped to No.20 in the rankings. He had a terrible 2021 season by his standards and will enter the 2022 season hoping to turn things around and get back into the Top 10 as soon as possible. He will play Alejandro Tabilo in the opening round and will be the overwhelming favorite to win.
Spain has a number of options for doubles and could field any 2 of their 5 players- Carreno Busta, Bautista Agut, Ramos Vinolas, Fokina or Martinez. As for Chile, Garin will play the doubles match with either Tabilo or Barrios Vera.
Chile vs Spain: Prediction
Despite the absence of Rafa Nadal, Spain will start the favorites against Chile. Even if Garin defeats Bautista Agut, which he should, Chile don’t have a singles player to battle Carreno Busta. Spain are also expected to win the doubles too. Expect both the teams to win a singles rubber each with Spain eventually winning the doubles watch to win the tie.
Prediction: Spain to win 2-1.
