McDonald comes into this match after beating Ilya Ivashka in the previous round. He also beat Benoit Paire and Nick Kyrgios in the earlier round in Washington this week. The American also reasonably fared well on the grass courts, ahead of the North American hard court swing. McDonald also made the semifinals of Nottingham. Earlier in the year, the 26-year-old also won the title on the hard courts of Nur Sultan. Till now on the hard courts, McDonald has a 10-7 win/loss record.

On the other hand, Kudla comes into this clash after beating Brandon Nakashima in the previous round. He also beat Feliciano Lopez and Taylor Fritz in the earlier round this week at Washington. Although he experienced a rough season on the clay, he impressed one and all by making the third round of Wimbledon, where his talent was on display. He also made the finals on the grass courts of Nottingham. For the year till now, the 28-year-old has a 12-7 win/loss record on the hard court.

But perhaps, this match could come down to the final set, where it could be decided by who wins most returns points at crucial junctures.
