At the Australian Open 2022 the Russian saved himself a place in the finals by defeating Stefanos Tsitsipas with a score of 7-6, 4-6, 6-4, 6-1. He finished the last season with a ATP ranking of World No.2 and won his first Grand Slam at the US Open last year by defeating World No.1 Novak Djokovic in the finals.
