Victoria Azarenka vs Angelique Kerber: Preview

2-time grand slam champion, Victoria Azarenka proved her mettle as she ousted wild card Andrea Petkovic in straight sets 6-4,7-6(2) in the first round of the Berlin Open. They had clashed three times between 2010 and 2013 with Azarenka winning twice, but this marked their first meeting in eight years.
Azarenka has a very well suited game for grass on account of her low baseline strokes. The Belarussian has also made to the semifinals of Wimbledon twice in 2011-12. In Berlin this week, she would hope for a good run in build up to Wimbledon.
As for her opponent, Angelique Kerber, she is no newbie to the grass. The former world no.1 is also a Wimbledon champion in 2018 and reached the final in 2016. She has the perfect game for grass because of her good serve and smashing forehands. In Berlin, she absolutely thrashed Japanese Misaki Doi in the first round 6-2,6-1 to set up a clash with Azarenka.
Victoria Azarenka vs Angelique Kerber: Head-to-Head

This will be the 11th meeting between the duo. Azarenka leads the H2H 9-1. They last met at Miami earlier this year where Azarenka won in straight sets.
Victoria Azarenka vs Angelique Kerber: Prediction

Both the players know each other very well and are closely matched on current form. Hence the match promises to be a mouth-watering affair. Azarenka clearly has a better record against Kerber and will have a slight edge over her. But Kerber, playing on home soil will look to make the most of her favorable surface. Expect a very tight match with the Belarussian edging into the quarterfinals.
Prediction: Azarenka to win in three sets.
