Azarenka has reached the fourth round of the French Open for first time since 2013. The Belarusian, who reached the semi-final at Roland Garros eight years ago managed to beat Madison Keys in two sets in the third round. She also came through a tough three-setter against WTA veteran Svetlana Kuznetsova in the opening round in Paris. The two-time Grand Slam champion only started her clay court swing for 2021 in Madrid. Unfortunately, in the second round she retired due to a back injury. After the exit of Naomi Osaka, Ash Barty and Petra Kvitova, the women’s draw appears open now and the 31-year-old Azarenka has all the experience to make another deep run at this year’s Roland Garros.

On the other hand, the Russian stunned third seed Aryna Sabalenka in the third round. The 29-year-old is making her fourth round appearance at Roland Garros for the first time since 2011. Pavlyuchenkova also struck 22 winners and made just 16 unforced errors compared to her opponent’s 41 winners and 39 unforced errors. After an initial stutter in Istanbul, the Russian managed to reach the semis of Madrid, before entering the 2021 French Open.

Victoria Azarenka

Both players are showing promise in this year’s French Open. After having spent many years on the tour, they are used to the big stage of a Grand Slam and that might bring out their best tennis in this match. Expect plenty of long rallies from the back court, and the one who plays the bigger points better is likely to emerge victorious. In this case, Azarenka has a slight edge over her opponent given her superior record over Pavlyuchenkova.

Match Prediction: Victoria Azarenka should win in three sets.
