Pablo Carreno-Busta vs Enzo Couacaud: Preview

Pablo Carreno Busta

The Spaniard is coming into this event with a mixed-bag of results. The 29-year-old made the finals of Marbella to kick off the clay season early in April and then reached the semis of Barcelona, before he was downed by the eventual champion Rafael Nadal. Unfortunately, a string of early exits followed in Madrid and Rome. Coming into Roland Garros this year, he beat in three easy sets. He is a former quarterfinalist at this event. With 11 wins in 15 outings on clay this season, it is tough to see him fade away before the second week in Paris.

On the other hand, the Frenchman has played most of matches on the clay this season. However, he has only been a part of the challengers and lower-ranked tournaments. He didn’t play the main ATP tournaments before coming into this year’s Roland Garros. In the opening round, he managed to beat Egor Gerasimov in three sets. That said, it is unlikely that the 26-year-old will get past the second round.

Pablo Carreno-Busta vs Enzo Couacaud: Prediction

Pablo Carreno Busta
Pablo Carreno Busta

Expect nothing from Carreno-Busta but consistent shot making from the baseline. The Spaniard is comfortable playing on the clay and should have little trouble in overcoming his relatively inexperienced opponent in the second round. A straight set win should be the deal for the No.12 ranked player.

Match Prediction: Pablo Carreno-Busta should win in three sets.
