Pablo Carreno Busta vs Federico Delbonis: Preview
The Spaniard has experienced a mixed-bag of results in this season, especially on the clay. Despite winning Marbella early in the year and making the semis of Barcelona, he was ousted in the fourth round at Roland Garros by finalist Stefanos Tsitsipas. Busta was also busted early at Wimbledon, but has done well do dust off his poor run on grass this week in Hamburg. The 30-year-old has won both rounds comfortably, without losing a set and looks poised for a positive result going into the weekend. Busta also has a win-loss record of 21-8 this year, with 15 of those victories coming on the clay.
Meanwhile, the Argentine has also been impressive this week in Hamburg by beating Benoit Paire in three sets in the quarterfinals. Delbonis also beat clay specialist Albert Ramos-Vinolas in the second round. The southpaw has played 39 matches on the dirt this year, winning 29 of those and will enter the semifinals brimming with confidence to go one step further.
Pablo Carreno Busta vs Federico Delbonis: Head to Head
These two have met seven times on the tour, with Delbonis leading Busta by 5-2. Their last meeting came at this year’s Madrid Masters, where once again the southpaw came out trumps in three sets.
Pablo Carreno Busta vs Federico Delbonis: Prediction
This match has all the ingredients to be a classic. Both players love playing on the dirt and will not hesitate to occupy the baseline. While Delbonis will try to pound balls from the back, the Spaniard will try to remain consistent to wear down his opponent. Given their overall head-to-head, especially on clay the Argentina player clearly holds the edge. Therefore, it would only make sense to bill him as the favourite to prevail in three sets.
Match Prediction: Federico Delbonis should win in three sets.
