Former World No.1 Kim Clijsters will finally make her season debut this week at the Chicago Classic having been recovering from fitness concerns that delayed her season debut. Ever since she came out of her retirement in 2020 after retiring in 2012, she has played just 3 matches last season and will be looking to get her first win in over 9 on the Tour.

Hsieh Su-Wei returns on the WTA Tour after her 2nd round defeat at the 2021 US Open losing out to Spain’s Sara Sorribes Tormo. She has had a mixed run so far on the tour but has seen improvement since the Hardcourt season resumed after registering just 1 season win on Clay and Grass courts combined.

Kim Clijsters vs Hsieh Su-Wei: Prediction

Su-Wei Hsieh
Su-Wei Hsieh

Hsieh will take the court with a career Hardcourt record of 312-196 and is 11-7 on the surface having gone 12-14 for the season across all surfaces. Kim will come into the clash with a career Hardcourt record of 324-73 and will be playing her first match in over a year as the 38-year old last played in 2020.

While Kim had been a force in her prime, not much can be said about her current form as she has not played in a while. Hsieh is herself not in great form but has been active on the tour and will come in with a good amount of match practice which makes her the favourite in this tie between the veterans.

Prediction: Hsieh Su-Wei to win in straight-sets.
