‘There should be a time limit set for changing of the clothes during matches,’ feels Dominic Thiem

2020 US Open champion Dominic Thiem might not be in a position to defend his title in New York this year. That said, the Austrian is making it a point to tune into the action from the comfort of his home.
Recently, Thiem was asked to share his opinion on the controversy that sparked during the opening round match between World No.3 Stefanos Tsitsipas and former World No.1 Andy Murray.
The Greek was accused by the Brit for deliberately taking extended bathroom break, at the end of the fourth set. Murray even slammed Tsitsipas for violating the rules and going against the spirit of the game.
“First of all it was a hell of a match. Great for tennis. It’s also nice that things are heating up from time to time,” Thiem opined to the Tennis Channel.
“But I saw most of the match and can totally understand Andy. But my point of view is that, especially with the conditions of New York, you need to go out in a five setter at least twice because you just need to change your pants.”
While the Austrian agreed that the heat and the humidity in New York can be demanding, he also clarified that a player shouldn’t be taking any unfair advantage of such situations.

“There’s no way around that, especially if you sweat that much. But there should be a time limit to that because if you go out to change all your clothes, it doesn’t take long, three or four minutes, maximum five, so there should be a time limit on that. I heard Andy’s press conference and he was right. It just cools down your body and you are getting stiff and it is not easy at all.”
Meanwhile, Tsitsipas defeated Frenchman Adrian Mannarino in the second round in New York. The 23-year-old has made it to the third round of the US Open for the first time in his career.
