James Duckworth makes it to his first final of the season on the ATP Tour as he defeats Belarusian Ilya Ivashka 6-3, 7-6(4) to register his 4th straight-set win this week in Kazakhstan and qualify for the finals without dropping a set. After some early exits in the previous tournaments, not many expected James to make the finals but the Australian has surprised everyone on his way for the title-deciding clash.

Kwon Soon-woo wins his 1st semi-final of the season after having failed to win the semis in the 2021 Eastbourne Open. After winning his first two rounds in straight-sets, the South Korean won his quarter-final and semi-final clashes in 3-sets, defeating 2nd seeded Alexander Bublik 3-6, 7-5, 6-3 to enter the final.

James will come into the tie with an overall season record of 30-18 having gone 15-8 on outdoor hardcourts while being 6-4 on indoor hardcourts this season. Kwon is 26-8 this season across all surfaces while having a 2-8 record on outdoor hardcourts and a 12-2 record on indoor hardcourts.

While both the players come into the tie with highly inconsistent form, they have been spectacular this week and as a result, have found themselves in the finals. While it promises to be a thrilling final, James remains the favourite for the title given his slightly better form but Kwon will be spirited given his back-to-back 3-set wins.

Prediction: James Duckworth to win the title in a 3-set victory.
