Emma Raducanu

British teen sensation Emma Raducanu scripted history by becoming the first qualifier in tennis history to win a grand slam. The 18-year old was playing only her second grand slam and she completed her fairytale run by winning the 2021 US Open. She also ended Britain’s wait of 53 years for a women’s singles title at the US Open since Virginia Wade won the 1968 US Open title, the first US Open tournament of the Open Era.

Raducanu, who made headlines a month back at Wimbledon, where she reached the fourth round on grand slam debut, has now become a household name all over the world and some are even projecting her emphatic win to be one of the greatest in sports in recent times.

Like everyone else, the young Brit too has a lot of hobbies and motorsports top the charts. Raducanu is a huge Formula 1 fan and doesn’t miss any race weekends.

Formula 1 teams and drivers took to social media to congratulate the newly crowned US Open champion. British drivers Lewis Hamilton, Lando Norris and George Russell expressed their excitement towards Emma and congratulated her for a historic feat.

“Wow dreams do come true. Well done @emmaraducanu first of many,” Hamilton wrote on Instagram. “Just incredible to see her rise. The focus that she has, the sheer determination. She’s such a sweet person as well. The UK has something to be really proud of in her. Can’t wait to see what she does next,” he added.

McLaren and Mercedes also congratulated Emma for her win.

“It’s the first ever tennis match I’ve watched from start to finish. Which shows something,” McLaren driver Lando Norris said. “It was awesome to see. In a similar way it’s relatable, my age, coming into Formula One. It’s cool to see someone bringing it to the big dogs, the more experienced and older players. I was rooting for her and I’m glad she pulled it off.”

Williams driver, George Russell too took to twitter to congratulate Emma.
