In a recent interview with the British presenter, Andrew Castle, 19-year-old star tennis sensation Emma Raducanu revealed some of the things she still does even though she has a huge net worth after her emphatic US Open 2021 victory.
In this interview, Emma shares how some things did not change for her even after winning a Grand Slam. She said she still gets told off by her parents.
Although Emma has risen to global fame in the past months, her parents Ian and Renee are keeping her feet on the ground and not letting the fame change her personality and lifestyle. ”I feel like the exact same person and go about everything I used to do. I don’t see why I should change things,” said the star.
“I said I was tired! They both told me off,” she further said. Surprisingly, she also mentioned that she still uses public transport despite a net worth of approximately £4.5million.
Her parents Ian and Renee Raducanu have been an integral part of the tennis journey. Romanian Ian and Renee, who is Chinese, lived in Toronto, Canada, when their only child Emma was born, and the family moved to the UK when she turned two.
She also shared that her parents were not able to attend her tournament in the US because of covid rules. After the victory at the US Open, she told the reports that tennis is the last topic on which she talks to her parents.
”I speak to my parents, we don’t really talk so much about tennis but they just really want to know how I am in these moments and, you know, to not have them here with me, I would have loved them to be here and we can all celebrate together or they could be with me and experience the same things but you know, they’re watching from home very proud,’‘ she said.
After her win, the tennis star, who got A and A* in her A-levels this summer, was invited to the Met Gala in New York and was this month made a global ambassador for Evian water.
Emma Raducanu’s Career at Glance
The 19-year-old tennis star won her first Grand Slam beating Leylah Fernandez in the US Open 2021 final. She is the first British woman to do so since 1977. Her current WTA ranking is 19 and her British ranking is No.1.
In 2018, she won ITF Grade-3 at Chandigarh and Grade-2 junior tournaments at New Delhi both in India. She also won the ITF Chandigarh lawn tennis girls’ tournament at the beginning of 2018.
