Emma Raducanu became a household name after her sensational and one for the ages run at the 2021 US Open as the then 18-year old clinched her maiden Grand Slam in just her 2nd career Grand Slam appearance and her first-ever at the Flushing Meadows.

Emma was then ranked World No. 150 and was yet to win her first match on the WTA Tour when she entered the main-draw of the Slam by winning all three of her qualifying matches in straight-sets. Into the main-draw, the young gritty Brit breezed through her way to the finals as she became the first qualifier in history to win a Grand Slam as she defeated Canadian teenager Leylah Fernandez in straight-sets.

Even before winning the major, Emma had already gained quite a following as her heroics were discussed across the globe not only in the tennis fraternity but in sports generally. Both Emma and Leylah were the crowd favourites coming into the finals for their underdog runs to the finals.
