Cristian Garin vs Marc Polmans: Preview
24-year-old Australian Marc Polmans comes into the match having brushed aside home-supported Swiss international Sandro Ehrat in straight sets 7-5,6-3. The Aussie has been a consistent player at Challenger level, with one title to his name and has kept on collecting wins at Grand Slams.
Chilean Garin enters the Swiss open directly in the Round of 16 and will be looking to continue the momentum gained from an impressive run at the grass courts of Wimbledon, where he lost to eventual champion Novak Djokovic in an easy match for the world number 1, 6-2,6-4,6-2. He will be looking to bounce back from the disappointment of having lost in the quarter finals of the ATP Bastad Open to unseeded Federico Coria. Having been seeded number 2 for that tournament, he would have expected to atleast make the finals but was unable to.
Cristian Garin vs Marc Polmans: Head To Head
The pair have faced off twice, both at the Slams. Having met in the second round of both Wimbledon and French Open, Garin leads the Head to Head 2-0.
They most recently faced off at Wimbledon 2021, where the Chilean emerged victorious 7-6,6-2,2-6,7-6. The other meeting was at Roland Garros 2020, where Garin won 6-7,6-2,7-6,6-4.
Cristian Garin vs Marc Polmans: Prediction
Number 4 seed Cristian Garin will be playing his first match at the Swiss Open while Marc has played and won his Round of 32 clash. Garin comes into the match with a superior rank and also revenge on his mind after his shock Swedish Open exit in the quarters despite being favourite for the tournament. The Chilean remains favourite for this one too.
Prediction: Garin to win in straight sets.
