Casper Ruud vs Tennys Sandgren: Preview
It has been a dream Clay season for Casper Ruud so far. The Norwegian has been one of the most lethal clay court player this season. He has reached the semi-finals of the last three events he played, which included 2 Masters 1000 events at Monte Carlo and Madrid.
Since April 2021, he has got the better of some big names in Diego Schwartzman, Fabio Fognini, Pablo Carreno Busta, Felix Auger-Aliassime and Stefanos Tsitsipas.
His opponent, Tennys Sandgren has been in very poor form lately. He had zero Clay court wins coming into the Geneva Open. Speaking about his form, he hasn’t been able to get past the qualifying rounds either. But this week, Sandgren looks in good touch. His first round victory over Salvatore Caruso should give him a bit of confidence. He defeated the Italian in straight sets 6-3,6-4.
Casper Ruud vs Tennys Sandgren: Head-to-Head
This will be the first meeting between the duo. They haven’t met on tour yet and hence their H2H stands deadlock at 0-0.
Casper Ruud vs Tennys Sandgren: Prediction
This should be an easy win for Ruud as he goes in as the overwhelming favorite on paper. Ruud has been one of the most improved players on tour since the Clay court season began. He has been hitting the ball cleanly from the baseline and is serving well too.
Unfortunately, Sandgren hasn’t been able to find any sort of momentum on the red dirt this season. He isn’t able to keep his serve in the box and is making too many errors. His first round win should give him some confidence but getting past Ruud will require a Herculian task from the 29 year old. Expect Ruud to cruise into the semi-finals easily.
Prediction: Ruud to win in straight sets.
