The two best players-Ruud and Shapovalov, this week in Geneva will battle it out in the final. Third seed Ruud has been one of the best players this Clay season. He has made it to the semi-finals of every tournament he has played this Clay season and has gone one step further this week.

In Geneva, he has just dropped one one and has looked very convincing. He defeated Spanish Clay courter Pablo Andujar in the semi-finals in straight sets 6-3,6-2.

His opponent, Denis Shapovalov has also been one of the best players this Clay season. The Canadian youngster came very close in defeating Rafael Nadal in Rome last week and has carried the same form in Geneva.

He has also dropped just one set all-tournament and has defeated two very good clay-courters. He got the better of Laslo Djere in the quarter-final and then cruised past Pablo Cuevas in the semi-finals in straight sets 6-4,7-5.

The encounter promises to be a mouth watering affair between two NextGen stars. Both have been hitting very hard from the baseline all season and hence their defense will be the key to determine the outcome of the match.

Ruud will look to counter Shapo’s one-handed backhand with his drop shot while the Canadian will want to exploit Ruud’s backhand. Expect a thrilling match going down the line with Ruud winning the title.

Prediction: Ruud to win in three sets.
