Jannik Sinner has announced that he has parted ways with his coach Riccardo Piatti. There were unofficial reports last week that the Italian has split up with his long-time coach Piatti, under whom Sinner has been training since he was 13.

After a week of speculations, Sinner took to Twitter to announce the news officially that he decided to part ways with Piatti and the rest of his coaching team. He shared a heartfelt post thanking his entourage for guiding him right from the beginning of his career up to now.

Piatti has coached many top players like Milos Raonic, Borna Coric, and Richard Gasquet. Most of them had their career-best years while being coached by the Italian.

Sinner also reached new heights while being mentored by Piatti. After turning pro in 2018, the Italian youngster broke into the top-100 the following year and won the Next Gen Finals. He had a breakthrough season last year as he won 4 titles and debuted in the top-10, and was the youngest player since Rafael Nadal in 2005 to finish the year inside the top-10. Sinner hasn’t mentioned any reason as to why he decided to split with Piatti after having such success over the years.

Numerous names were floated around after Sinner parted ways with his coach. Initially, John McEnroe was believed to be in line to Sinner’s next coach after the Italian expressed his desire to be coached by McEnroe during the Australian Open last month. But it was soon quashed away and now Boris Becker and Magnus Norman are believed to be the front-runners.

Becker initially coached Djokovic from 2014 to 2016, during which the Serb enjoyed immense success as he won six Grand Slams and 14 Masters titles. But Becker hasn’t been on tour since then. Whereas, Magnus Norman has a reputation of being a successful coach on tour after he had a remarkable stint while coaching Stan Wawrinka to Grand Slam glory. Wawrinka won 3 Grand Slam titles and one Master title under Norman.

While there are many rumors about who the next potential coach might be, Sinner is yet to confirm his next coaching team. But for the moment Sinner is temporarily training under Simone Vagnozzi as he gears up for a return at the Dubai Tennis Championships which start on February 21st.
