“I’ll continue to make you proud”- Dylan Alcott shares his pride on being named the Australian of the Year 2022

Dylan Alcott is an Australian wheelchair tennis player, wheelchair basketball player, radio host and motivational speaker. Alcott was a member of the Australia men’s national wheelchair basketball team, known colloquially as the Australian “Rollers”.
He Is one of the most inspirational figures in the world of Australian sports, and is also an advocate for disability. The Aussie has won 15 grand slam quad singles titles and another eight in doubles, and is one of the legends of the game. He was born with a tumour wrapped around his spinal cord, which was successfully removed when he was three weeks old but left him permanently on wheelchairs.
Alcott named Australian of the year for 2022

On Tuesday, Dylan Alcott was named the Australian of the year 2022 for the exceptional year he had. The announcement was made by Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison on Tuesday, after the 31-year-old had qualified for the final of the Australian Open 2022, where he’ll be aiming to win his 8th title.
This was a historical win, as this is the first time that a person with a disability had won the award in its entire history. He has conferred the award for the exceptional 2021 he had on the court, becoming the first man in history to achieve a golden slam, that is winning all four Grand Slam singles titles as well as gold at the Paralympics.
After the win, Alcott took to Twitter to share his feelings on winning the award. The Aussie made known his immense pride and honor on the historic win, and pledged to continue to make the country proud and represent people with disabilities.
“Wow. I’m forever grateful. My purpose today and everyday is to change perceptions so people with disability can live the lives they deserve to live. I’ll do my best to make you all proud as your Australian of the Year xx”- tweeted Alcott.
