John Isner vs Yoshihito Nishioka : Preview
John Isner will be back on the lawns of the All-England Club where he will be making his 12th appearance. Isner’s best result so far at Wimbledon came in 2018 when he made it till the semi-finals, losing out in a 5-set thriller to Kevin Anderson in the longest semi-final of any Grand Slam and also the 2nd longest match at Wimbledon behind Isner’s epic 11-hour clash against Nicolas Mahut at the 2010 Wimbledon.
Isner was defeated in the 2nd round of the 2019 Wimbledon and will be looking to have a longer stay this year. So far this season, he has made two quarter-final appearances, at the 2021 Delray Beach Open and the 2021 Madrid Masters. He did not play any tournament leading to Wimbledon and will be back on court for the first time since his 3rd round defeat at the French Open 2021.
Yoshihito Nishioka will be making his 5th Wimbledon appearance and 4th main draw appearance when he takes the court against Isner. He entered the main draw for the first time at the 2016 Wimbledon where he was defeated in the 1st round after having come from the qualifying stages. Subsequently, he was defeated in the first round of both the 2018 and 2019 Wimbledon.
He remains winless on Grass since the 2016 Wimbledon’s 3rd round victory in the qualifiers. He tried his luck this year at the 2021 Eastbourne but was defeated in the first round again as his wait continues for a win on the surface.

This will be their 2nd meeting on the tour and 1st on Grass. They met way back in 2017 at the Memphis Open played on indoor Hardcourts where Isner won and leads the head-to-head tie 1-0.

Nishioka will come into the tie with a career Grass record of 7-10 and an overall season record of 10-15 after going winless in 5 Hardcourt tournaments he played in. Isner will be a very tough challenge for Nishioka as the big American aces his way through at the Championships at the All-England Club.
Isner will be the favourite coming into this tie as he has a 49-24 career Grass record and is 9-5 for the season. He has been a very good player on Grass and will be looking to make an easy victory against Nishioka.
