John McEnroe is an American tennis player, however, he was born in Wiesbaden, Germany (then West Germany) on February 16, 1959 as his father John Patrick McEnroe was posted in Germany. His mother’s name was Kay. However, soon the family moved back to the USA when the future American tennis legend was still a baby. He began playing tennis at the age of 8 years.

The four-time US Open champion married actress Tatum O’Neal in 1986, and they divorced in 1994. They had two boys, Kevin and Sean, and a daughter, Emily. The children were previously shared by the former partner, but McEnroe was granted exclusive custody in 1998 owing to O’Neal’s drug usage.

The American tennis legend later married singer Patty Smyth in 1997, and the couple has two daughters: Anna (born in December 1995) and Ava (born in March 1999).

The former American tennis professional achievements in a career that spanned for 28 years was marked by some great triumphs. He won seven Grand Slam singles titles and nine Grand Slam doubles titles. He also won the ATP Tour Finals singles title three times.

John McEnroe had successful stint with Peter Fleming as doubles pair from 1979 to 1984. The pair won four Wimbledon men’s doubles titles and three US Open men’s doubles titles. The pair also won ATP Tour Finals doubles title seven times in a row.

He also won the French Open mixed doubles title in 1977 with Mary Carillo. Besides his victories in Grand Slams, he was also instrumental in his country’s victorious run in the Davis Cup five times. He was inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame in 1997.
