‘Just go home,’ Martina Navratilova gives brutally honest advice to Novak Djokovic amidst AO 2022 controversy

Martina Navratilova, Novak Djokovic

Novak Djokovic has been the talk in the tennis community over the past week, after his touchdown in Melbourne. The Serbian, who applied for medical exemption in order to compete at Australian Open 2022, was denied entry into the country, and was held in detention.

American great and former tennis player, Martina Navratilova has delivered a brutally honest verdict on the Novak Djokovic situation. She suggests that the Serbian should just go home, to avoid any further drama. Martina believes that since Novak Djokovic is not adhering to the vaccination rules, he should skip the tournament for common good, as he would be the only unvaccinated player left.

However, Martina Navratilova believes Novak Djokovic will not go back, and instead fight for a record 21st major. The Serbian could claim his 10th Australian Open title this month, and a fourth straight title in Melbourne.

“I‘m not him. The best thing for Novak to do I think is to say, ‘You know what, there are too many mistakes, this not OK, I would be the only unvaccinated player to play in the Australian Open,’” Navratilova said.

Martina Navratilova gave a simple analogy on as to why she thinks Novak should go back home. She stated that if a player has an hamstring injury, he simply goes back home without causing a world wide uproar.

The right thing to do is to just go home. If you pull a hamstring, you don’t make a worldwide uproar about it. It’s just the right thing to do, but I don’t think he will do it because he wants that 21st title,” she added.

Martina Navratilova also added that comments made by parents of Novak Djokovic, are just exaggerating the matter. Hence, the American legend believes their comments are triggering the Serbian fans, who are known to get angered quite easily.

“The parents have not been helping with their statements. I am not blaming Novak for his parents’ comments, but they have indeed stoked the fires. And Serbian fans get emotional very easily, we have had issues in the past,” Navratilova continued.

Novak Djokovic awaits the decision of Minister of Immigration, Alex Hawke on whether he can compete at Australian Open 2022. It is believed that the authorities are still investigating the documents submitted by the Serbian, upon his arrival in Melbourne.
