Angelique Kerber v Nina Stojanovic: Preview

Stojanovic
Nina Stojanovic

Angelique Kerber retired from the Australian Open after losing in straight sets to Bernarda Pera in the first round, 0–6, 4–6, citing a lack of preparation due to her tight quarantine. Her French open event didn’t go well, as she was beaten in the first round by Ukrainian Kilinina.. She defeated Petra Kvitova in a third set tiebreak in the final of the new 2021 Bad Homburg Open in Germany, her first final since 2019 Eastbourne, precisely two years earlier. She won her 13th career championship in the final against Kateina Siniakova.

Nina Stojanovic advanced to the third round of the Miami Open after qualifying and defeating Heather Watson and Yulia Putintseva. Stojanovic went on to win Oceane Dodin and Donna Vekic in the semifinals of her maiden event on grass, which she qualified for. Unfortunately for her, despite coming into the match as a favourite against Anastasia Potapova, she was eliminated in the first round at Birmingham. She hasn’t won anything yet, other than making it to a handful of semi-finals.
