Naomi Osaka has been making the headlines since last week, for her controversial decisions at French Open 2021 in Paris. Firstly, the Japanese decided to boycott the press conferences at the tournament, and was fined $15,000 for the same. She was warned about future violations, which could lead to a disqualification from the tournament.

However, Naomi Osaka shocked the sporting world when she mad a huge decision to withdraw her name from French Open 2021. The world number two stated that she was struggling with her mental health, and was dealing with a lot of anxiety after her arrival in Paris. Sporting stars from all over the globe have defended Naomi Osaka for her decision, and have stressed on the importance of mental health.

Lewis Hamilton, seven time Formula One champion came out in defence of Naomi Osaka, and urged tennis fans, and others to support the Japanese during this tough phase.

Lewis Hamilton applauds Naomi Osaka for her courageous decision

Lewis Hamilton put up a message on Twitter in support of Naomi Osaka, who had earlier withdrawn from French Open 2021. The Briton has never shied away from expressing his opinion, and did the same by speaking out against the criticism Osaka has received in the past week.

“Mental health is not a joke, this is real and serious. This takes a lot of courage to do. Let’s all make sure Naomi knows she’s not alone. Today is a good day to check and ask your friends and loved ones how they are doing and let them know they are not alone,” wrote Hamilton on Twitter in response to Osaka’s message.

As for Lewis Hamilton, he will travel to Baku for the Azerbaijan GP which is scheduled to be held this weekend. The Briton is second in the championship standings behind the Dutch driver, Max Verstappen who won the Monaco GP a few weeks earlier.
