Many athletes have taken the difficult decision to withdraw from the upcoming 2020 Tokyo Olympics and the list of players who are set to miss the tournament is continuously increasing. 

Tennis stars like Roger Federer, Serena Williams, Rafael Nadal, Denis Shapovalov, Nick Kyrgios, Dominic Thiem, Simona Halep, Bianca Andreescu, Angelique Kerber and Stan Wawrinka have already decided to skip the Olympics. 

The full list of players who are not participating in the Olympics

  • Rafael Nadal – Singles and doubles Olympic gold champion announced his withdrawal after the French Open. 
  • Roger Federer will not be participating because of a knee injury he sustained during Wimbledon.
  • Dominic Thiem, Denis Shapovalov, Stan Wawrinka, Reilly Opelka, John Isner and Taylor Fritz are all out due to injuries and safety concerns.
  • Juan Martin Del Potro is preparing for his comeback and thus, has opted out.
  • Alex de Minaur withdraws after testing positive for coronavirus.
  • Roberto Bautista Agut, Casper Ruud, Cristian Garín, David Goffin, Milos Raonic, Jannik Sinner, Dan Evans, Cameron Norrie, Borna Coric, Taylor Fritz, Albert Ramos-Vinolas, Adrian Mannarino, Dušan Lajović, Filip Krajinović, Federico Delbonis, Lloyd Harris will all be missing out
  • Serena Williams – four time gold medallist did not give reason for not taking part.
  • Sofia Kenin, Madison Keys, Johanna Konta and Bianca Andreescu have also dropped out
  • Simona Halep and Monica Puig are out due to injury
  • Angelique Kerber, decided not to play so as to let her body rest to be ready for the rest of the summer
  • Victoria Azarenka has withdrawn due to challenges of the pandemic

  • Aryna Sabalenka, Elina Svitolina, Karolina Pliskova, Iga Swiatek, Jennifer Brady, Coco Gauff and Garbine Muguruza are all set to compete
  • On the men’s side, Novak Djokovic, Daniil Medvedev, Stefanos Tsitsipas, Alexander Zverev, Andrey Rublev and Matteo Berrettini are confirmed to be going to Tokyo among the top-10.
  • Diego Schwartzman, Felix Auger-Aliassime, Marin Cilic, Gael Monfils, Hubert Hurkacz, Ugo Humbert, Márton Fucsovics, Kei Nishikori, Alexander Bublik, Aslan Karatsev, Karen Khachanov, Pablo Carreño Busta and Alejandro Davidovich Fokinaare all set to play
