Martic who reached a career high ranking of 14 in 2020 and has won one WTA Tour title, is seeded number 6 in the tournament. Martic opted out of playing from the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and thus, was last seen at Wimbledon where she suffered a disappointing loss in the second round. However, at San Jose, she has gotten off to a good start. She triumphed over Anastasija Sevastova in straight sets.
