The American-Czechoslovakian legend picked out Madison Keys as one of her American favourites. She reasoned that the American is coming off a great Australian Open and would thus carry momentum into the tournament. Another factor pointed out by Navratilova is the fact that Keys is playing without any fear, which is improving her tennis.

Madison Keys has started playing better, had a great Aussie Open. To be playing with that old fearless abandon, controlling her power. She’s not scared, she’s not nervous, she’s just going for her shots,” said Navratilova.

Another American picked out by the legend was Amanda Anisimova. Navratilova termed the player as maturing, and said that being injury-free finally has helped her game massively. The American termed Anisimova as a dark horse in the tournament, revealing that other players would be fearful to see her on the other side of the net.

“Amanda Anisimova is maturing as a player. She’s stepping into that – she’s been through so much, personally and with injuries. I think the upside for her is huge, I just don’t know if she’s ready just yet. I certainly wouldn’t want to see her on the other side of the net as an unseeded player. She’s a dark horse anywhere right now,” added Navratilova.
