“I don’t think it’s a weak point anymore” Matteo Berrettini talks about having improved his game

World No. 7 Matteo Berrettini had a sorry ending to his 2021 season after he was injured in his first match at 2021 ATP Finals post which he had to withdraw from the tournament. Matteo had a sensational season otherwise as he reached his first-ever Grand Slam final at the 2021 Wimbledon while also making the quarter-finals of the French Open and the US Open.

As he ascended towards the Top-10 of the rankings, the Italian’s game was being observed closely to find his weaknesses in order to beat him on the court. One such weakness that was noted was his backhand as he tried his best level to play the majority of his shots on the forehand and employ his backhand as much as possible.

Speaking in a recent conversation with Sportface, Berrettini talked about how he has worked on his backhand and also his service which was being attacked by his opponents during the matches. “I think tennis is mostly about to serve and return. It’s no secret that I work on this the most. Now I think my backhand is better, I don’t feel like it’s a weak point anymore, although I prefer to shift on my forehand whenever possible,” said Matteo.
