World number 5 Andrey Rublev will lock horns with world number 14 Denis Shapovalov in the semi-finals of the Mubadala World Tennis Championship.
The Mubadala World Tennis Championship is an exhibition event, featuring both men’s and women’s singles events. Created with the aim of promoting the sport in the Middle East, the tournament has been held annually since 2009 at the Abu Dhabi International Tennis Complex in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.
Rafael Nadal is the defending champion at the event, having won it in 2019 after the 2020 edition was canceled due to covid-19.

It promises to be an exciting semi-final match between the two superstars. While Shapovalov brushed aside Taylor Fritz in the first round, Rublev received an opening-round bye.
Rublev has had a pretty good season in 2021, winning the ATP 500 title in Rotterdam and then going on to win the gold in the mixed doubles category at the Tokyo Olympics. However, consistency has deserted the Russian on the biggest occasions, with his grand slam record being pretty mediocre. However, the 24-year-old was on fire at the Davis Cup as Russia went on to win the tournament.

He has had a pretty poor 2021 by his standards, having failed to win any titles. The highlight of his season was reaching a maiden Grand Slam semi-final at the Wimbledon. However, after the tournament, the 22-year-old went on a 4 match losing streak.
The pair have faced each other on four occasions, with the head-to-head standing at 2-2.
