‘It was strange and complicated’: Andy Murray reacts after Kyrgios pulled out of Winston-Salem Open moments before first-round clash

Andy Murray
Winston-Salem Open is well and truly underway and many top-rated tennis stars are making their presence felt in the tournament. British tennis star and former World No. 1 Andy Murray was all set to play his first game in the marquee tournament against controversy king Nick Kyrgios.
However, living up to the title of ‘controversy king’, the Australian tennis player added another page to his book of unnecessary controversies. Nick Kyrgios decided not to participate in the Winston-Salem Open and withdrew from the tournament at the last moment.
‘Fortunately, it worked out well’: Murray after the first-round win

Kyrgios’s decision did not go down well with many tennis experts and fans. Apparently, Andy Murray was also shocked after he got to know that Kyrgios will not play in the tournament. Talking about the same issue, the Brit claimed that it was very strange and complicated to face some other opponent at the last moment.
“It was a strange and rather complicated situation because I had prepared the match to play with Nick, I was clear on the whole pattern of play to follow and, suddenly, I see myself competing against a tennis player that I have never measured against,” Murray said after his match was scheduled haphazardly against Noah Rubin.
He further added that he is happy that he got used to the sudden change and eventually ended up winning the contest without much hassle. “Fortunately, little by little I got used to it and had a good game. I felt quite comfortable on the court and I did my job.”
Murray is all set to face thirteenth-seeded Frances Tiafoe in the second-round clash at the Winston-Salem Open. Murray fans would be hoping to see a dominant performance from the Scottish tennis star before he moves into the US Open which will begin later this month.
