Andy Murray vs Matteo Berrettini : Preview
Andy Murray is back on Grass and has made a strong comeback on his favourite surface. The Brit playing his first match on Grass in 3 years, required only 65 minutes to wrap up his first round victory over Benoit Paire, defeating the Frenchman 6-3, 6-2.
Murray gave a great throwback to his true form while playing on the lawns of the Queen’s Club where he is a 5-time champion and will be looking to continue this form further ahead in the tournament as he looks forward to another great season on Grass.
Matteo Berrettini brushes of his first match woes as he looks to continue his form throughout the season on the Grass surface as well. Berrettini who had a highly successful Grass season in 2019 that saw him win the 2019 Stuttgart Open, reach the semi-finals of the 2019 Halle Open and reached the 4th round at 2019 Wimbledon before losing to eventual runner-up Roger Federer.
Berrettini who played fellow Italian Stefano Travaglia in the 1st round, aced his way into the 2nd round dominating on his 1st serve while hitting 14 aces as well. While the contest was highly even between the Italians, Berrettini won the crucial moments to take the match 7-6(5), 7-6(4) in just under 2 hours to get a win on his debut in the Queen’s Club.
Andy Murray vs Matteo Berrettini : Head to Head
This will be the 2nd career meeting between the two and first on Grass. The duo last met at the 2019 Beijing Open where Murray won in straight-sets and leads the head-to-head tie 1-0.
Andy Murray vs Matteo Berrettini : Prediction
Murray will come into the match with a season record of 6-3 and will be looking to extend it against the in-form Italian who is currently on 22-6 for the season. While Murray’s overall record on Grass is 115-29, Matteo is on 18-7.
However, looking at the overall form, Berrettini will be the favourite for this clash as he is in better form and does not have any alarming fitness issue. Nevertheless, Murray’s experience and his display of high quality tennis in the 1st round will definitely be a plus point for the Brit who will aim for another victory on Grass and can swing the match his way.
Prediction: Matteo Berrettini to win in 3-sets.
