Andy Murray returns to the ATP Tour after a brief appearance on the Challenger tournament in Rennes where he was defeated in the 2nd round. Murray also featured at the 2021 US Open where he was defeated in the 1st round by World No. 3 Stefanos Tsitsipas in a 5-set thriller that was marred with controversies as well.

Ugo Humbert will come to Moselle hoping to end his streak of poor runs. The Frenchman after a title run at the 2021 Halle Open, lost in the first round of the 2021 Wimbledon Championships. He made it to the 4th round at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics but since then has been knocked out in the 2nd round of the 2021 Toronto Masters and consecutive 1st round defeats at the 2021 Cincinnati Masters and the US Open.
