“80% of players are always dealing with something,” Taylor Fritz addresses Novak Djokovic’s injury criticism comments
Taylor Fritz comes in with an explanation for the media targeting Novak Djokovic
Taylor and Novak
The American world No.8, Taylor Fritz comes out explaining the reasons for the media targeting only certain players about their injuries. Yesterday, Novak Djokovic spoke at the press conference after his thumping victory over the local boy, Alex de Minaur. He was questioned about the legitimacy of his injury, and he was disappointed and replied with some strong words as an answer.
Taylor then took to Twitter later and gave a detailed explanation about it and justified his reasons for the same. Novak accused some media of just targeting a few players about their injuries. He also said there are many other players with injuries too but they aren’t questioned regularly. After his comfortable win in his latest match, people started questioning if he was really injured or if he faking it.
Taylor wrote in his tweet saying “My opinion that probably nobody cares about…. 80% of players are always dealing w something (severity levels differ) but everyone is honesty always a little banged up… the media is only ever focusing on the top guys so there issues get more attention.”
Taylor came in support of Novak and said no player can fake an injury. But few players might be more vocal about their injuries than the rest. He further believed that faking an injury can be done in a bad sportsmanship kind of way. He however clarified that he is not taking shots at any players.
Taylor Fritz expecting ‘hate messages’ after his statement
Taylor Fritz did give a small disclaimer that he didn’t target any player in specific and urged the fans not to get defensive. However, it looked like he still got some hate messages upon which he further tweeted. Earlier in the tweet, Taylor hasn’t taken any player’s name directly. However, he justified the reasons why Novak is being targeted. He tweeted saying he is still expecting hate messages and laughed about it.
Taylor lost to a wildcard entry, Alexei Popyrin in the second round of the Australian Open and it was one of the early shocks of the tournament. On the other hand, Novak Djokovic is still in the race and reached the quarterfinals of the Grand Slam. He will be facing the fifth seed from Russia, Andrey Rublev on Wednesday.
