Adrian Mannarino has got himself again in trouble with his behaviour. The 34-year old spoke some words which he too realized must not be spoken in his match against Lorenzo Musetti in his second-round fixture at the Indian Wells Open. He defeated the Italian 6-4, 6-4.

However, he was penalized with a penalty point in the second set for his abrupt and unacceptable behaviour. In a recent interview, he talked about the reasons which led him to such an extreme point that he could not control himself.

“There were guys who spoke to me badly, warmed me up a little bit, with little double-barreled insults, saying “Forza” between the first and the second ball. The whole game, you try to contain yourself. There’s a 5–3 ball where I fall to the ground hitting my head, and behind I was a little off. At that point, it pissed me off a bit and I said something that wasn’t great… You get insulted on social media, you get insulted on the court, after a while you just want to be able to answer from time to time. But you have to deal with it… , he expressed himself.

The Frenchman has made some giant strides this season. He started his 2023 season by participating in the ASB Classic tournament. Here, he was knocked out in the first-round of the competition by J.J. Wolf. He then participated in the Australian Open. He was able to reach the second-round of this competition but lost to Alex de Minaur in a four set match.

He subsequently participated in the Dallas Open where he reached the quarter-finals. However, here he met with the challenge of Wu Yibing which proved to be unsurmountable for him. He lost this match 3-6, 4-6. He then participated in the Del Ray Beach Open. Here too, he reached the quarter-final round but could not win against Taylor Fritz.

He followed it up by playing in the ITF Challenger Monterrey and Mexican Open to prepare well for the Indian Wells Open. However, he could not do much in both these tournaments. He also got rewarded for his consistency on the ATP Tour. He climbed positions and is currently ranked as World no. 68 in the ATP rankings.
