Germany’s Alexander Zverev will meet Norway’s Casper Ruud in the semifinal on Friday (June 9) on Court Philippe-Chatrier at the French Open in Paris. Apart from his game, a quote from him at a press conference drew hilarious reactions as well as made the netizens slam the reporters.
After beating Grigor Dimitrov in the fourth round, the 22nd-seed was asked the reason why netizens call him “lion” and it left the German in splits. Zverev ended up giving a bizarre answer.
He said: “Yeah, what is it, lions sleep 18 hours a day, and have s** for four hours a day and then eat for two? Doesn’t sound bad for me, to be honest (smiling).” The 26-year-old then said the reason behind this must have been his hairstyle and his screaming while playing.
After knocking out Argentina’s Tomas Martin Etcheverry with a 6-4, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 win in the quarterfinals, when Zverev was asked a question at the post-match press conference, he expressed how he heaved a sigh of relief that he wasn’t asked the “lion” question again. “I’m just happy you’re asking me how big my heart is- and not something else!”
Alexander Zverev vs Casper Ruud head-to-head record
Alexander Zverev has reached his third successive French Open semi-final, which will also be his sixth Grand Slam semi-final appearance. Last year, the 26-year-old Zverev had to leave the tournament in a wheelchair after damaging his ankle ligaments badly during his semi-final match against Rafael Nadal. This injury sidelined him for several months and cost him the rest of the 2022 season before he was finally able to make his comeback in January.
While Zverev has been good so far in this tournament, the 26-year-old will face his toughest opponent in the semi-final. Norway’s Casper Ruud is the 2022 Roland Garros finalist. He was defeated by Spanish legend Rafael Nadal who won his 14th French Open title.
Ruud faced his Scandinavian counterpart Holger Rune in the quarterfinal and emerged with a 6-1, 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 win. While Ruud is 21-11 this season, Zverev is 21-14.
And about their head-to-head record, Ruud has won just once in their three encounters. So, the German leads the head-to-head record 2-1. That lone win for Rudd against Zverev came in the Miami Open quarterfinals last year. This will be their first meeting on the red dirt.
