Former American legend Serena Williams is one of the greatest female athletes who has inspired millions over the world in her career that lasted over two decades. She has been one of the players who revolutionized women’s tennis and created a legacy on her own that will be remembered for ages. American skater Nathen Chen went on to praise his compatriot and acknowledged her support.

She has named 23 singles Grand Slam titles to her kitty which is the most by a player in the Open Era. She has won 23 Grand Slam singles titles in total and 14 doubles major titles, all partnering with her sister Venus Williams. Serena Williams is truly a champion of the game with numerous other accolades and achievements, as the list goes on. She finished as the year-end No. 1 five times while being ranked as the World No 1 for a record 319 weeks.

The American skater has recently released his memoir ‘One Jump at a Time‘ where he has talked in detail about his journey from the beginning as he took up the sport. He is regarded as one of the greatest figure skaters with numerous achievements and records to his name. But faced a shocking defeat at the Winter Olympics in 2018 when he lost his momentum and ended up in the 17th position. He recalled the words of encouragement he had received from the former Wimbledon champion during that time.

Chen appreciated the advice coming from a person who has faced a lot of challenges herself and can understand the situation. He said that “It was really cool to be able to hear from someone who’s been through so much and more and to just give me some support and some words of encouragement. Have stayed in contact to a small extent.

Her contribution to the sport has been exemplary as she is one of the few Black Americans to have etched their names on the highest stage. Following her incredible journey in professional tennis, she has been bestowed with special recognition at the Smithsonian’s National Portrait Gallery. Serena Williams received the Portrait of Nation award for being a true champion of the sport.

Along with her, Venus has also been identified at the same exhibition event with newly commissioned larger-than-life portraits on display at The National Portrait Gallery. She claimed to be completely blown away by the honor while saying that it has been extra special because her sister has also been inducted for the recognition.

She played her farewell tournament during the US Open at the same stadium where she won her first Grand Slam in the year 1999. Post-retirement, she has been enjoying her time with her family especially her daughter Olympia.
