Former World No. 5 Eugenie Bouchard is yet to make her season debut in 2024. The Canadian has been out of action on the WTA Tour for a while now and there is a rival sport supporting this.
The 29-year-old has made the switch to pickleball, a rising racket game. Unlike former World No. 8, Jack Sock, who retired from tennis to play pickleball, Bouchard is yet to make any announcement on these lines.
Bouchard did return to the tennis courts but that was a friendly clash. She competed against Caroline Wozniacki in Dallas ahead of the ATP event. The former World No. 1 came out on top in their match. The duo had also teamed up for doubles in the exhibition event.
The Canadian is currently enjoying a holiday in Colorado in the Aspen Mountains. She took the trip with her brother William Bouchard who spent the time together in various activities. The former French Open semi-finalist put out a lot of photos on her Instagram, primarily of skiing which she did for the first time in her life.
She then posted a video on her Instagram stories where she played a doubles pickleball match. One can assume she played with strangers at the sports center as it happened in Colorado.
The small clip showed her winning the point while also having a good exchange of shots between the two teams. Not only did she win the point but she also won the match as per the text along with her story.
Just came to play up at the rec center! and we wonWrote Bouchard.
Eugenie Bouchard was instrumental in Canada’s maiden BJK Cup title
Due to her long absence, Bouchard’s ranking dropped massively. She returned to the Tour to start her 2023 season in the Australian leg. But she failed to reach the main-draw in Auckland or the Australian Open.
She did not play till April and was then handed a wildcard to play the main-draw in Bogota where she lost in the second round. The former World No. 5 fought her way through the qualifiers to reach the second round in the Madrid Open. It was her last appearance in the main-draw on the Tour.
She then crashed out in the qualifying rounds of all of her remaining events on the WTA Tour. Despite a poor record, she was included in the Canadian squad for the 2023 BJK Cup.
The 2014 Wimbledon runner-up repaid the trust by winning both of her doubles matches as the country won its first-ever title at the ‘World Cup’ of women’s tennis.
