Richard Gasquet, former world number 7 and a three-time Grand Slam semi-finalist, is one of the most talented players in France and has always been under the scrutiny of his entire nation. Het faced an early defeat in the Round of 32 against Sebastian Ofner in 6-1, 5 –7, 5–7 at the Austrian Open in Kitzbuhel in 2 hours and 33 minutes of play. Even though he looked much in control of the game in the first set, but it did not help him much as he lost the next two sets. He played some amazing shots but his fitness levels could not match up with his opponent Ofner.
He has 67 Grand Slam appearances, 5th on the list of most appearances at Grand Slams but is still yet to win at least one. He has been struggling with a lot of injuries and his inconsistent form. He is best known for his elegant groundstrokes and his one-handed backhand. This year, he has reached four ATP Tour quarter-finals, out of which three are clay-court events.

Gasquet was seeded 10th in the tournament whereas Ofner is seeded 235th in the ATP rankings. Much to his loss, he was much irked by one of the sports news agencies named ‘LeQuipe’ when they had mistakenly written the wrong spelling of his name. They had missed the letter ‘h’ in his first name ‘Richard’ which was just a typing error. He showed his displeasure and shared a story on his social media account on Instagram stating the mistake which he doesn’t appreciate at all. Even though he has not many win records to his name, he feels that he deserved a bit of respect at least write his correct spelling at least.
Gasquet is an Olympic bronze medallist in the doubles category. He has 15 ATP Tour titles to his name. He was a part of the winning team in the Davis Cup in the year 2017. He became the sixth active player on the ATP Tour to win 550 matches in 2021. At the All England Club this year, he faced a second-round exit which once again showed his lack of fitness and inconsistent form.
