World No 8 Andrey Rublev is one of the upcoming players of the sport and is yet to win a major title but has won 12 ATP singles titles. He has been a formidable opponent in the dominant era of the Big 3. He had a good finish to his 2022 campaign by reaching the semifinals for the first time at the Year-end Championship. But he considered his anti-war message as his best memory of the year.
The Russian has won four singles ATP Titles throughout the year which came at the Open 13, Dubai Tennis Championship, Serbia Open, and the Gijon Open. He had put up a remarkable performance at the Serbia Open as he defeated Novak Djokovic in the finals to win his 10th ATP singles title. Rublev managed to reach the last eight of the US Open and the French Open, which was his best performance at majors this season.
The 25-year-old reflected on his performances throughout the season and recalled his most cherishing moment. The message ‘No War please’ that he wrote on the lens of one of the cameras during the Dubai Championship was the most meaningful moment according to World No 8. He expressed his gratitude to be able to play and called himself lucky while condemning the fact that millions of people are suffering.
Andrey Rublev said during an interview that “One of the best things I did this year was the message I left in Dubai. It was the most meaning that I could do during the year. In my case, I am super lucky. I cannot say anything or complain because I am able to play and travel. In my position, I am super lucky but there are millions of people who suffer and it’s terrible.“
This was not the first time Andrey Rublev wrote an anti-war message on the lens of a camera
This was not the first time Rublev went on to put up such a message and has always wanted that the ongoing conflict comes to an end as soon as possible. After winning against Daniil Medvedev at the ATP Finals, he had done something similar that had been the talk of the town.
He went ahead to write the word “peace” three times on one of the on-court cameras followed by the words “all we need”. He has always maintained his stance that he wishes to use the platform to convey his message for peace and keep the war and sports on different sides. He has been quite vocal about the ongoing war situation in Russia and Ukraine.
The Russians have been affected professionally due to the conflict between Russia and Ukraine and war conditions. As a result, the Russian and Belarusian were not allowed to play in Wimbledon and a few other tournaments on the ATP and WTA Tour. Andrey Rublev stated that he is using the platform to create more awareness and deliver the right message since This message came just after SW19.
