Andy Murray believes that he has best chance at this year's Wimbledon
Andy Murray has been sensational this season, and he hopes to continue his incredible resurgence at Wimbledon. He has termed his performances “night and day,” comparing the enormous difference in performance this season to last year’s in Doha.
Andy Murray was knocked out in the second round of the Qatar Open 2022, after losing to Roberto Bautista Agut 0-6, 1-6. However, he reached the final of the tournament this time but lost to Daniil Medvedev.
However, this experience of playing in Doha has helped him and given him confidence that he will be able to reach the advanced stages of The Championships.
“My feeling on Wimbledon is that less players play well on grass. More of the guys are comfortable on the hard courts and that probably increases my chances. I’m not saying I would expect to win the French Open [on clay] if I played, but with Wimbledon, there is certainly a better opportunity to have a deep run,” he said in an interview.
Meanwhile, the former World No.1 has worked on his fitness and training. He gives credit to his newly evolved practice regime for the successes this season.
“But I also really like the way that I’ve trained in practice these last four months and I’ve not been doing that with Wimbledon in mind. I’m trying to just focus on each day and trying to get the most out of it. If I do that and accumulate enough of those days, then I believe that come Wimbledon my game will be in a really, really good place,” he continued.

Andy Murray has won Wimbledon twice, in 2013 and 2016. However, after that victory in 2016, he is struggling to maintain form, fitness, and peak levels. He had to miss many important tournaments and even a full season because of injuries. He had to miss most of the action on the ATP Tour last season. The Briton is fancying his chances this time on the tour as he believes that his body is coping well. He is confident that he will be able to play five-set matches in Grand Slam tournaments.
“Yes, I have some niggles and my body doesn’t feel amazing, but it’s coped really well with the first few tournaments of the year that have been really demanding. My belief is that my body would be fine to play seven five-set matches if needs be. Granted, if they are six-hour ones, probably not, but regular five-set matches, I’d be able to cope with that,” he added further.
He has shown his abilities in the Australian Open, where he played two marathon matches against Matteo Berrettini and Thanasi Kokkinakis in the first-round and second rounds of this competition, respectively. He was scheduled to play at the Dubai Tennis Championships. However, he has now decided to withdraw from this competition. He will be participating in the Indian Wells Open in 2023.
