Aryna Sabalenka was on Cloud nine after winning the Australian Open 2023 ladies’ singles title. She had won both the tournaments she participated in this season and came to Dubai with the intention to add another WTA title to her name. However, all her expectations took a hit as she lost to Barbora Krejcikova in the quarter-final round of the Dubai Open 2023.
This is her first loss this season. However, the Belarusian player is neither disheartened nor discouraged by this loss. She congratulated the Czech player for her victory and hoped for giving a better performance at the Indian Wells Open 2023.
Eminent journalist Reem Abulleil shared one of her statements given to the media in her latest social media post.
“Probably there will be less attention (now that the streak is over). It doesn’t matter, I lost it. Barbora deserved it, she played great tennis and I will just keep working and keep getting better; make sure that Indian Wells will be a better result,” Aryna Sabalenka said.

Aryna Sabalenka’s aspiration to become World No.1 took a hit
After winning her maiden Grand Slam singles title, the 24-year-old has set her eyes on a new goal. She has given herself the aim to become World No.1. Currently, the top position is held by Iga Swiatek.
“It’s my first priority, I really want it… Iga’s doing really well, she’s moving better than anybody else, she’s tough and it’s going to be really tough, and that’s why I really want to achieve it,” Aryna Sabalenka had said in an interview on the sidelines of the WTA Dubai Tennis Championships.
There is also a considerable difference between the two ladies in the ranking points. A great difference of 4800 points has developed between the Polish player and Aryna Sabalenka who is the current World No.2.
This difference is expected to only get wider as Iga Swiatek won her match against Karolina Pliskova and advanced into the semi-final round of the Dubai Open. She will take on Coco Gauff in this match.
Hence, Aryna Sabalenka need to win both the sunshine doubles to lessen the gap and hope for Iga Swiatek to take an early exit in both tournaments. The task that the current World No.2 has given herself may not be impossible to achieve but is hard to accomplish and it seems very difficult to even imagine that any player would be able to dethrone the Polish player from her current World No.1 spot this season. The Belarusian is currently looking forward to participating in the upcoming WTA 1000 events in the USA.
