Former world No. 1, Ash Barty, is the most popular personality in Australia, beating the likes of some elite personalities from various fields. This list includes some prominent names like Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Nick Kyrgios, and Hugh Jackman. This 26-year-old retired tennis superstar is at the top of the list.

The Gemba Group surveys the Australian public and tracks down the ‘likeability’ and ‘awareness’ of athletes. One of their recent findings suggested that Ash is the most popular athlete in Australia. And this list has athletes from various sports, like tennis, cricket, and Formula 1, as well as non-athletes.

She had a very important 2022, winning the Australian Open and retiring from professional tennis. She also won the highest sporting honor, the Don Award, last year, making her the third athlete to get the honor for the second time. Although she retired from tennis, she is still in demand for sponsors. She is currently endorsing some giant brands like Optus, UKG, Marriott, RADO, Qantas, Vegemite, and AIA.

Along with the Don Award, she also won the Newcombe Medal for a record fifth year in a row. She was also Google’s most searched Australian in 2022, pushing down the country’s Prime Minister, Anthony Albanese. However, the list doesn’t include the name of the local star, Nick Kyrgios, in the top 10. Cricketers like Pat Cummins and Steve Smith secured places in the top 10. 

Some of the other prominent names over which Ash was placed were Dylan Alcott, the tennis player and Australian of the Year, musician Ed Sheeran, and formula 1 driver Daniel Ricciardo.

Ash Barty is soon to be a mother

Ash Barty, 26, took to her official Instagram handle to announce her pregnancy. This former world No. 1 shocked the tennis world by announcing her retirement at the prime of her career last year. She and her husband, Garry Kissick, a professional golfer, announced the birth of their child on Instagram. They got married in a private ceremony last July. 

She wrote “2023 set to be the best year yet. We are so excited for our new adventure,” and included a baby emoji “Origi already the protective big sister.” She posted a picture of her dog Origi with a pair of baby shoes. While her husband also added a picture of a baby-sized Liverpool kit saying “Little Red, 2023” with a baby emoji.

Her fans, the tennis world, and many popular figures wished and congratulated her on the news. However, she is quite busy during her pregnancy as well, releasing her own autobiography, My Dream Time. She is also set to mentor a young wildcard entry from Australia, Olivia Gadecki, in the upcoming Australian Open.
