Chilean professional tennis player Bárbara Gatica Avilés has been handed a three-year ban from participating in tennis tournaments after admitting she was paid to deliberately lose a match, way back in 2016. The agency did not specify which match or how much she was paid during the match fixing.

Barbara Gatica Aviles is also alleged to have consumed Boldenone. Boldenone is mentioned as a prohibited substance in the World Anti-Doping Agency’s Prohibited List. For this offense, she got a suspension in May.

The 2-time Grand Slam champion Simona Halep is also banned from professional tennis tournaments for allegedly taking in prohibitive substances such as Roxadustat. She failed the doping test during the 2022 US Open. She was soon suspended by the International Tennis Integrity Agency which ordered an investigation into this matter.

However, the 2019 Wimbledon champion has consistently refused to have consumed the prohibited substance. She is ready to cooperate in this matter with the investigation agencies. Also, she believes that the truth shall prevail in the end. She got support from fellow compatriot Sorana Cristea and ex-husband Toni Iuruc. But the most important support she has got is from the WTA chief Steve Simon.

“I believe her that she didn’t intentionally do something here. That being said, I do believe very strongly in our anti-doping program, and I think it’s a good one, and our players support it, too. And if you ask Simona, she supports it. I’m very confident that as we go through the process, the truth is going to come out, and we will deal with it accordingly. But I have a lot of sympathy for Simona, because I would never question her integrity,” he had said of Simona Halep.

Simona Halep is determined to fight her case and prove herself innocent. Only time will tell how this case ends up.
