Bernabé Zapata Miralles compliments Rafael Nadal and Carlos Alcaraz
Bernabé Zapata Miralles is another young Spanish player who is emerging on the world stage of the sport. He has got some high idols to emulate too. He recently praised fellow countrymen World No.2 Carlos Alcaraz and Rafael Nadal.
Carlos Alcaraz and Bernabé Zapata Miralles have trained with each other. Also, the two players met this season in the semi-finals of the Argentina Open. Here, the current World No.2 defeated Miralles 6-2, 6-2. Hence, he knows the 19-year old very well and recently he talked about what makes him special and also compared him with Rafael Nadal.
“Both Carlos and Rafa (Nadal) are born champions. Winning is the priority for them. They have a winning instinct inside, which is what sets them apart from other players. How they manage emotions on the court at the time of playing the number one or a Grand Slam final so young… that is born with it. It is a gift although you have to work on it. I worked with Nadal and with Carlos too,” he said in a recent interview given to MARCA.
Bernabé Zapata Miralles will start his campaign in the upcoming Indian Wells Open soon by playing against Ugo Humbert.
Carlos Alcaraz chances at the Indian Wells Open 2023
The 19-year old is back in the USA for the first time after winning his first Grand Slam title of his career, i.e., the US Open 2022 men’s singles title for the Indian Wells Open. Following his victory in New York, last season, his career has been on an ascendancy.
Carlos Alcaraz had to miss out on some important tournaments which includes Australian Open, because of a nasty injury which kept him out for a few months this season. However, he is back and has made a huge impact with his presence in the ATP tournaments. He made it to the final of both the Argentina Open and Rio Open.
Hence, his chances at this year’s Indian Wells Open are brighter. Last time around, he made it to the semi-final round here. But this time he is the favorite to win this tournament. His chances also got a boost because of the absence of both Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic from the tournament for different reasons. However, he needs to work on his fitness to be able to compete against the likes of Daniil Medvedev, Stefanos Tsitisipas, Felix Auger-Aliassime and others who too are in great form.
