The Australian Nick Kyrgios and the Canadian Bianca Andreescu paired up as mixed doubles partners for their team Eagles. They are participating in the inaugural edition of the World Tennis League. This is an exhibition event that will be held between 19th-24th December in Dubai, UAE.

This is a unique mixed-gender event. Some of the best players have come to participate in this competition. The Team Eagles were playing against Team Kites. This was the first time the Canadian-Australian pair has ever participated in any event. They defeated the Dane-Canadian pair of Holger Rune and Eugenie Bouchard in straight sets 6-2, 6-3. After the match, Andreescu highlighted the chemistry between the two.

“I thought the chemistry was great right from the start. We’re both pretty outgoing people so I thought that we’re going to bring great energy and we played very well. I think we both have great hands. I think he’s rubbing off on me a little bit on the serve and on the volleys, so hopefully we can keep it going,” she said in an interview.

Nick Kyrgios is a fan of team events. He fancies his chances in the tournaments. Previously, he has participated in the Laver Cup for Team World and this year won the 2022 Australian Open doubles title with fellow compatriot Thanasi Kokkinakis. He noted, “It’s a new experience for the fans and the players. There aren’t many events where I can be sitting next to Rohan Bopanna and Bianca Andreescu, so that’s pretty cool. It gives tennis a bit of a different dynamic.”

The WTA Finals 2022 champion Caroline Garcia and Andreas Seppi with Rohan Bopanna are also part of the Team Eagles of Nick Kyrgios and Bianca Andreescu.

The Canadian tennis player Bianca Andreescu started her journey as a professional tennis player with a bang. She won the 2019 US Open title at the young age of 20 years defeating Serena Williams in the final.

However, she could not continue her brilliant performance in 2020 and 2021. She had to miss out on most of the action in the 2020 season due to an unfortunate knee injury and the Covid-19 pandemic. After her comeback, though, she made it to the final of the 2021 Miami Open. However, here, she lost to Ashleigh Barty.

Again, she had to sit out in the first few months of the 2022 season due to an injury. However, she failed to impress. She could not advance past the second round of both the French Open and Wimbledon. She was defeated by Caroline Garcia in the third round of the US Open. With that being said, it seems like the Canadian will be looking to gain her form as she will try to remain injury-free for the 2023 season.
